Working in several organizations made me experience different methodologies, from alternative-average-conservative methods.
Shape Up emerged as a more adaptable methodology for little agencies. The primary goal is mutual learning among team members, focusing on building the right things through rapid experimentation and learning rather than relying on big, upfront planning. Instead of having a scope and sprint times to develop a project, like Agile methodology, Shape Up offered a flexible way to launch MVPs.
Agile methodology is quite common in Digital Projects management. It involves constant collaboration and working in iterations, and it's ideal for projects with rapidly changing requirements, using short sprints.
I began my career in small agencies specializing in startups, but I was eager to experience the perspective from the other side. Joining large companies gave me the chance to improve my skills and demonstrate the true value of UX/UI, contributing to their understanding and appreciation of user-centered design principles. This shift offered unique opportunities and challenges that shaped my professional growth and approach to design.
Working in a large, more traditional company has its pros and cons. On the positive side, it provides the chance to educate and advocate for UX/UI principles, make a meaningful impact by introducing user-centered practices, leverage extensive resources, and gain exposure to complex systems and diverse teams. However, there are also challenges, such as resistance to change and innovation, slower decision-making processes, hierarchical structures that may limit creative input, and an initial lack of understanding or support for UX/UI practices.
